Chester FC Women claimed their seventh win in a row as they beat Warrington Town Ladies 3-1 at the Deva Stadium this Sunday. The result catipulted the Seals to second in the table as they look to keep the pressure on league leaders Nantwich Town.
Warrington came to the Deva in 8th in the league and faced up against the most in form side in the league it was always going to be a tall task. The match started off rather fiesty with fierce challenges flying in from both sides
Chester were the side causing problems early on but they failed to time their runs in attacking moves with four players caught offside in the opening ten minutes. The first chance of the game came as Emma Clausen played a wonderful ball into the box which was met by fellow wingback Sasha Johnson at the backpost, but her effort was straight at the goalkeeper.
Chester would find the lead in the 16th minute as midfielder Freya Williams played a wonderful through ball to Johnson on the wing whose cross into the area was met by a bullet header from Ciara Lee to give the home side the lead.
It wouldn’t be long before the Blues found a second goal as Lola Smith brought the ball under control a firm tackle from the Warrington defender played the ball straight to Sophia O’Neill who curled the ball beyond the visitors keeper to continue her fine goalscoring form.
Chester kept pushing for more with O’Neill at the heart of the attack again as she drove past several Warrington defenders and laid it off to fellow striker Smith but her effort was saved well by the goalkeeper.
Chester would find a third ten minutes before the break from a corner, as the ball came in it was allowed to bounce through the box and O’Neill caught it sweetly on the volley firing the ball into the bottom corner.
O’Neill would have a handful of chances for a first half-hatrick but her efforts would just go wide meaning the home side went into the break with a 3-0 lead.
The visitors would come out of the break with an early chance but it was well dealt with by the Chester defence.
O’Neill would continue to delight the crowd as she sat down a Warrington defender with wonderful skill which was met with a roar of applause from the fans in the main stand.
Chester would look to extend their lead with much of their attacking output coming from the dynamic wingback duo of Johnson and Clausen but the Warrington goalkeeper would pull off a number of great saves to keep the score at 3-0.
Chester would manage the rest of the second half well dominating the ball and playing it around a downhearted Warrington side.
The visitors would find a goal in the latter stages as their striker was bundled over in the box and she would dispatch the penalty to earn a consolation goal for Warrington.
Chester will travel to face Liverpool Feds Reserves next weekend and will be looking to continue their winning streak.
